1/32nd Scale Railway Modelling

August 2013

Trade developments

More progress.

Artist Fred Phipps is just putting the finishing touches to his kit for the "original" North British "Warships", an absolutely magnificent piece of work....

Accucraft has produced a gas fired model of the Southern B4 tank, is working on a range of GWR locomotives in live steam and has just (June) announced a RTR 1/32 scale RCH PO wagon.

Trevor Taylor and his Gauge One model company are forging ahead with its plans for ready to run 1/32 scale Mark 1 coaches, I have my name down for a set of Southern Region green ones and delivery appears to be likely this autumn (2013).

The very engaging Lawrie Loveless continues with his A4 models, the matching coaches are currently being developed as well.

Slaters haven't produced anything new for Gauge One for a while but have successfully moved premises, so hopefully some new developments are in the pipeline. As far as I am aware this is still likely to be a Midland brake van as David told me a while ago that a pattern for what will be another cast in oner resin body had already been made.

Tower Models and Finescale Brass continue as the sources of imported brass RTR in this scale, mostly big engines and all track powered. The (or a) factory is closing apparently, so there will be no more coming - until the next batch?

G1MRA

Our more progressive committee succeeded in putting on a first show that was open to the public back in June at the Fosse. A great success, I hope it is the first of many such events.

The Web

I killed off my moribund FS32 Yahoo group and have also left the G1MRA Yahoo group. Although it is very ably run by David Halfpenny on behalf of the G1MRA membership, I have to say that I find it enduringly bad tempered and inward looking and find my G1 life is happier and more fulfilling without it. I find Western Thunder to be the most accomodating and useful "destination" on the internet for my own approach. Tragically the founder Cynric Williams passed away at the beginning of this year, but it continues under the stewardship of Adrian Cherry and it is where I have been posting the results of my own G1 endeavours. I can recommend it to anyone else with a similar outlook.

Personal trains

At last, some serious progress in my garden. My fantastic wife Lesley has finally given me permission to buid my line in front of the apple tree which means that a continuous run is now on the cards, using all my previously laid bases plus some new ones now being planned. Here is the completed trackwork for the loop and junction and crossover turnouts at Wenbridge Junction, all laid out for the first time this morning, July 11th 2013.

And here is D6319 constructed from the magnificent Fred Phipps kit, now DCC and sound fitted - a wonderful toy train!

Amongst various other odd modelling projects, I am currently scratchbuilding a Southern diagram 1452 ply bodied box van.

The intention of this site is to build a point of reference and centre of information for all individuals with an interest in 1/32nd scale standard gauge modelling. The fact that most prototypes discussed are British reflects the author's first interest and that outside of the UK Gauge One is generally practised at 1/32nd scale already.

The author of this site is Simon Castens, who takes responsibility for all opinions expressed and any mistakes that might have escaped his attention. If you would like to comment on anything written here, then please do so.
