W86 STEAM SPORTS CARS

Whimshire Garages evolved from a small company which mainly repaired agricultural equipment such as ploughs and harrows, plus sundry bicycles, pots and pans. After some experience gained with steam tractors the firm decided to produce a steam sports car, hand-built in small quantities. The original workshops, situated beside the Portersfoote Bunting Light Railway line not far from Bradforde Longflap, were extended to become a small factory complex with private railway sidings. As there is no road access to the site all parts arrive and completed cars are despatched by rail. The two red cars represent the month's output, while the other two cars in the picture are the result of tinkerings in the Research and Development Department. Although there is no station, passenger trains stop here to set down or pick up workers on request.
