M14 BESOM PLANCHARDE

At the end of a short narrow gauge branch from Bedstraw Bridge station on the East Whimshire Railway is the works at Besom Plancharde. Besom brooms are produced in vast numbers and transported to the EWR for carriage to the outside world. The picture shows the main works, where a train is being loaded with finished products, also the line's two well tank locomotives. Amy, on the left, is fitted with Plogg's Patent Spark Arresting Apparatus, where hot cinders fall down the metal pipe attached to the chimney top and pass through a water tank before being deposited on the track. Meg raises steam by the engine shed before taking the wagons in the foreground to the extensive birch plantations nearby to gather twigs for more besoms.
